Featured HMH Photo of the week
Back in the late 80’s on the stages around Boston a number – fairly large number for a band – of very talented musicians came together to bring us the Heavy Metal Horns. The original line up included Henley Douglas Jr. on tenor and baritone sax; John Vanderpool on tenor and alto sax; Garret Savluk on trumpet; John Ferry on trombone and vocals; Peter Calo on guitar and vocals; Pengbian Sang on bass; John Matthews on keys and vocals; Jim Strudevant on drums; Thaddeus Hogarth on vocals and Hudson Samuel on percussion.
Needless to say their sound is HUGE and wildly contagious. Audiences can’t help but get down this groove. Much to their surprise, but not surprisingly, the band was soon to go global. They were invited to hit the road with the band Extreme for their 1992-1993 “Stop the World” tour. However to make that happen a handful of substitutions had to be made.
The touring band included Felix Rentschler on guitar; Ed Spargo on bass and Bobby Hickman on percussion. They were accompanied by Thaddeus Hogarth, John Matthews and Jim Strudevant as well as the horn section or heart of HMH, John Vanderpool, Henley Douglas Jr., Garret Savluk and John Ferry.
